What are volcanos? Why do they occur?

Volcanos are openings in the Earth's crust through magma, a hot molten rock beneath Earth's surface which surfaces as expelled or emitted magma called lava during eruptions.

What are the different types of volcanos?

Shield Volcano, Composite Volcano, Cinder Cone Volcano, Caldera, Volcanic Field, Submarine Volcano, & Supervolcano

How do volcanos relate to plates?

Volcanos form when magma from the Earth's interior rises to the surface, often as a result of tectonic plate movement. This movement can cause the Earth's crust to stretch, thin, and eventually allow the magma to escape. A recent Volcanic formation was on February 20th, 1943, in Michoacán Mexico with the Paricutin volcano.

What are earthquakes? Why do they occur? how are they related to plates?

An earthquake is the ground shaking. They occur when there is movement in the earths crust. these movements happen when tectonic plates rub against each other or when there is a sudden shift, when this happens, a large amount of energy releases and travels as seismic waves, which causes the ground to start shaking.

How can earthquakes be predicted and measured

Earthquakes can be measured by using seismometers, it detects motion in the ground that would create a recording called seismograms. By the data that these tools give the scientists can calculate and measure using the MMS to find out the magnitude of an earthquake. An earthquake can be predicted by monitoring seismic activities, there is no way to predict the perfect exact timing or location but this gives you some early warnings.

How can cities prepare for Earthquakes

cities can prepare by having drills set in place, like the phrase "Drop, Cover, and Hold." and by schools having earthquake drills, this teaches people what to do incase of an earthquake. Educating people what to do incase of natural disasters is one of the best ways to prepare cities.

Recent earthquakes

On September 30th, 2025, a magnitude 6.9 hit the Visayas Archipelago in the Philippines, the plates that were involved in this earthquake were the Eurasian and Philippine Sea plates, this earthquake left thousands of people without homes and many people injured and dead.
